Brain Fog – A Symptom of Depression?

‘Brain Fog’ its that detached feeling that affects your thoughts, like your head is full of concrete. You cant hold a thought for more than 5 seconds, have a fuzzy memory, constantly forget things, can’t think straight, cant concentrate, etc.

This can be caused by several depression related things; your medications if you are on them, or a symptom of depression itself. Depression can often have siginificant effects on your cognitive functioning, the basic way your brain operates and thinks.

People who start new medications often find that the first few months on new meds are the worst.

So, that’s the hard part. Figuring out if your brain fog is a symptom of depression, or if your depression is a symptom of your brain fog.

    Hi,

I suffered brain fog for sometime and it seemed as if it would last forever…but I was diagnosed with hypothyroid and with treatment of underactive gland ..and proper diet my brain fog gradually vanished completely…in about 60 days or so.

Just came back to say to all that do not lose hope,I know it can make one feel suicidal at that point of time but its not forever. All will be well.

For the past 6years or so I have suffered with these symptoms..tirednes lack off concentration not being able to function think clearly or focus decreased attention spam and always feeling spaced out!! I’ve been to the doctors and they haven’t been very helpful at all just keeping telling me that I’m suffering with depression! I know myself I was never suffering with depression I have nothing to be depressed about I just constantly feel brain dead and this is what’s getting me down I have ambitions and want to do things but am struggling reaching my goals with the way I’m feeling its bringing me down I just want to be able to feel normal again can’t live my life like this any longer just wish the doctor would listen instead off always telling me I’m depressed!! :(

I am in the middle of brain fog. i will see the doctor on 9/13/11. I stopped lexapro after being on it for only 2 months. Is that what is causing this? I was on Prozac for 10 years and have stopped that.
